Are you curious about egg tempera as a painting medium but don’t know where to start? In this workshop Laurie Bell will show you appropriate boards, gesso, emulsion, pigment and brushes for egg tempera painting. Each participant will have the opportunity to prepare the egg medium, mix it with pigments, and try a few application techniques. Materials for the workshop are provided and a resource list will be available.
Watercolor and egg tempera were the mediums preferred by artist Andrew Wyeth who is featured in A Piece of the World by Christina Baker Kline, our Quiet Corner Reads One Region, One Book 2017 selection.
Laurie studies iconography with Marek Czarnecki in Meriden, CT. The style and brushwork of traditional egg tempera iconography differs from Wyeth’s works, but this introduction to the materials used may be enough to get you started. Contact Laurie if you have questions about the workshop
